Died, Sunday morning on south Second street, William J. N. Merryman, aged 56 years. Funeral from St. Paul's Episcopal church Tuesday morning.

Deceased was born in St. Louis, Mo., in March 1830, and was brought to this city by his parents when but a month old. He was the second child of Dr. and Mrs. Susan H. Merryman, sister of William Lavely, Esq. He was raised in this city and in 1852, went overland to California. In 1855 he left California and enlisted with Gen. Walker in his expedition to Central America. After returning to the United States he was engaged in various capacities in railroading on the C. & A. and other roads and has since then for a number of years lived in retirement from business in this city. He had been complaining for some weeks, but one week ago took to his bed and died on Sunday morning, as above stated.

He leaves behind his venerable mother and brother, Capt. James Merryman, who at present general inspector of the "Life-saving service" of the United States, with headquarters in New York. He was respected and esteemed by all who knew him.

Note: William's stone has last name spelled Merriman. The 1876 "Early Settlers of Sangamon County" has his family name spelled Merriman but the other members of his family have Merryman on their stones.
