A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Roy and Dewey Balding Plemmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Floyd B. Plemmons. A.J. proudly served the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 aboard the U.S.S. Cushing. He was a member of Allens Creek Baptist Church. A.J. retired from Dayco with almost 40 years of service, where he was very active with URW Local 277 and later served as President of the retiree's club. He proudly served on the Saunook Fire Department for over 20 years retiring in 1995. A.J. was a 65-year member of Woodmen of the World Lodge #226. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family, friends and the outdoors.
A.J. is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn Rogers Plemmons; two sons, Keith Plemmons, and his wife, Charlotte, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina and Steve Plemmons, and his wife, Connie, of Waynesville; five grandchildren, Allison Carver (Cabe), Laura Ledford (Shane), Emil Plemmons, Margot Plemmons and Luanne Plemmons; and three great-grandchildren, Jack Carver, AJ and Arlo Ledford.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Allens Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Scotty Patrick and Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
