Lois Ferguson, 81 of Montezuma passed away Friday morning, August 5, 2022 at the Montezuma Specialty Care in Montezuma. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. A luncheon/visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma United Methodist Church and may be sent to the funeral home at Holland-Coble Funeral Home, In Care of Lois Ferguson, P.O. Box 727, Montezuma, Iowa 50171. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of arrangements.

Lois Ann Ferguson, the daughter of Loel and Mary (Albaugh) Ferguson, was born on March 27, 1941 in Ames, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm south of Montezuma. Lois graduated from Montezuma High School in 1959, and later graduated from William Penn University with a degree in elementary education. She taught kindergarten in Bettendorf, Iowa and then Deep River-Millersburg before retiring. She returned to Montezuma after retiring and cared for her parents until they passed away.

Lois loved music and dramatics, performing in plays and serving as a soloist at weddings and funerals. She had a creative mind and enjoyed teaching her kindergarten classes, and wrote original stories which she incorporated into her teaching. She also loved origami, especially peace cranes. On a trip to Japan, she took over 10,000 peace cranes to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew, Christopher Ferguson.

Lois leaves behind her older brother, Dr. David (Ann) Ferguson and her younger sister, Linda (David) Cranston; nieces Laura Ferguson (Tim Elsworth), Shelley Cranston (Chris Brown), and Catherine Cranston (Charles Cranston) and nephews, Carols and Lee Ferguson (Mami), and many cousins and friends.
