Winfrey Horton was born in Patmos, Arkansas in 1927 to Lula Mae Laha Horton and Ben Rush Horton. Winfrey worked in the Oil and Gas Industry for nearly fifty years. He resided in the Palacios community for more than thirty-five years. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Palacios. He served as a Palacios City Council Member, President of the Palacios Rotary Club, and a Director of the Palacios Chamber of Commerce. He and his late wife Donnie received the Residential Preservation Award from the Palacios Area Historical Association for renovating the Claybourn House and Business of the Year award from the Palacios Chamber of Commerce. He was honored with the Friends of Education Award from the Council for Exceptional Children. He supported many community projects including the Palacios Area Youth in Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Association and the Friends of the Library. He enjoyed living in Palacios and walking his dog Peppy along the Seawall and attending many events that supported the Palacios community.

He was preceded in death by his wife Don Earl Horton and youngest daughter Cheryl Caminiti and her husband Curtis. Survivors include daughters Wynnette Bradley & Kathryn Kelley (Barry) both of Houston; five grandchildren Lisette Woodcock and Joshua Bradley, Jason Kelley, Brian Caminiti and Justin Caminiti, five great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Friday, December 31, 2021 at Hawley Cemetery
