Nell obtained her teaching degree from Eastern Kentucky University and taught for 35 years in various schools in Rockcastle County. Her last teaching years were at Roundstone Elementary School where she taught first grade. One of her greatest delights was catching up with her former students after they were grown.
Nell was a hospitable person who always made sure there was plenty of home cooking or an extra bed for any of the neighbors, friends from church or family from out of town. She worked tirelessly to make sure the kids' friends felt welcome and was always willing to offer sage counsel to any who needed it. She was diligent to model commitment to her family, to God and to her church family at Providence Church of Christ, where she was a member for over 65 years. She was perhaps best known as a mother, grandmother and as a devoted wife of Gatliff for 63 years. She was gentle and patient, always doing her best to spoil those around her by whatever means she had available. She always had time to sit and talk about Bible subjects or principles that would help them live a better life.
Besides her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her husband Gatliff. Those left to celebrate her life are her children Dana Lynne Sanders (Dave) of Atlanta, Georgia, Patrick Evans (Ann) Craig, and Christopher Joseph (Mary Lee) Craig of Brodhead; her grandchildren Anjelica Rae Craig-Johnson (Brad), Mackenzie Lynn Rogers (Dalton), C.J. Stanford, Duncan Reed Stanford, Molly Elizabeth Craig, Keaton Patrick Craig; three great granddaughters, Ella, Raegan, and Emma; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors.
A visitation for Mrs. Nell Wanda Craig will be held Saturday, August 6th, from 11 AM to 2 PM followed by the funeral at 2 PM and will be at the Providence Church of Christ. Following internment at the Providence Cemetery, all family and friends are invited to call at The Heritage Farm of Brodhead (1311 Kentucky 3245, Brodhead) for a celebration of life.
Casket bearers will be Duncan Stanford, CJ Stanford, Keaton Craig, Brad Johnson, Dalton Rogers, and Corey Craig.
