Son of Alexander Church and Mary Eller; Husband of (1) Mary Susannah Eller and (2) Lillie Cornelia Staley; father by his first wife of Alice Virginia, Louisa Cornelia, Ellen Selena, Mary Octavia, Robert Lee, Thomas W., William Harvey and Beulah Lillian; father by his second wife to Alma Mae, Lola Bertha, Anderson Mitchell Jr., Rufus Bradshaw and Ennis Grace. Anderson was a pioneer educator of Wilkes County , a sheriff (one of the few Democratic sheriffs elected in Wilkes Co.), A deputy collector of internal revenue, a member of the board of county commissioners several terms and a leading merchant in North Wilkesboro, operating under the name of AM Church. He was made captain of the home guard during the Civil War and was active in suppressing the outlaw gangs infesting the region. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and in 1875 was one of the organizers of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, donating the land on which it was built and serving as the first church clerk and a deacon. In 1880, he helped organize Wilkesboro Baptist and he and his wife were charter members. In 1886, he donated the land upon which Libery Grove Baptist Church is located. He also gave the land on which Liberty Grove school was built. He died on the 312 acre farm he owned four miles east of North Wilkesboro, where he had moved from "E" Street in North Wilkesboro. His father is buried at New Hope Baptist Church, Wilkes Co. and his mother at North Wilkesboro Town Cemetery, but I did not find a stone for her.
