Mr. James David "Jim" Arp, age 80, of Rome, GA, passed away Monday, August 1, 2022, at a local hospital.
Jim was born in Rome, GA on November 17, 1941, son of the late John James Arp and the late Kathleen Lovell Arp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Lee Stuart Arp, by his sister, Patti Arp Tolbert, and by a grandson, Jerome Samuel Boulineau. Mr. Arp was a graduate of East Rome High School and attended the University of Georgia, West Georgia College, and graduated from Georgia State University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He was employed for a number of years with Delta Airlines in Atlanta. A true entrepreneur, Mr. Arp operated or owned several businesses in our area prior to his retirement. He was a Charter Member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan.
Jim was a staunch conservative and a true patriot who loved his country. For three decades, he was a leader within the Floyd County Republican Party where he served as Chairman in 2000-2001. GOP Chairman and longtime friend, David Guldenschuh described Jim as follows: "He was the voice who always kept us true to our principles. He knew when to lead and when to provide the strong hand of support. I will miss my good friend and this great man."
Survivors include his four Daughters; Grandchildren; Great Grandchildren; Nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 12 noon at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Studdard and Rev. Bill Pardue officiating. Private interment will follow later in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday from 10am until 11:30am.
