EAST PEORIA – Mary E. Lewis, 94, of East Peoria, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at her home.
Mary was born May 8, 1928, in East Peoria, to Nathan and Hildred (Ames) Reed. She married James E. Lewis, Sr. on September 11, 1945, in Pekin. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1993. She was also preceded in death by seven siblings and one granddaughter.
Surviving are two sons, two daughters; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and four brothers.
Mary was recognized as a Real Daughter* by the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. She was one of the last two surviving members. She was also a lifetime member of the Thomas & Bridges Association in Cadiz, Ky. *Member whose father served in the Civil War.
Mary enjoyed time sitting on her front porch visiting with family and watching everyone pass by.
Mary was a member of the East Peoria Mennonite Church where she loved to help in many ways. She especially liked pie days where they baked rhubarb pies for the Mennonite Relief Sales.
A funeral service will be held at the East Peoria Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, with Pastor Kim Litwiller officiating. Visitation will be from 12 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
