His occupation was, first, that of a Merchant Marine sailor and then he became a farmer.
He married Margaret EGGMAN, an Englishwoman, on February 4, 1823 in New Jersey. They had thirteen children together, the second child being, Isaac, my second great-grandfather.
David Anthony Garoutte, who went by the middle name of "Anthony", moved his family from New Jersey to Ohio.
In 1838, they moved to Pond Creek Twp. in Greene County, Missouri and settled within three miles of the Garoutte Cemetery.
He helped organize the Blades Chappel Methodist concregation there in 1844 and in the beginning, services were held in his home.
His children by this first marriage were John, Isaac, William, George, Charles, Salvander, Ann Maria, James, Susie Ann, Jasper, Hannas, Sarah Elizabeth, and Joseph. Anthony's wife, Margaret EGGMAN Garoutte, died in 1855.
He then married Margaret REYNOLDS on December 13, 1855 and they had three children together before his death in 1861. They were named David Anthony, Mary Eliza, and Thomas Abraham.
David Anthony Garoutte (called Anthony) was very much loved and missed by his very large family and many friends.
His grave is unmarked.
