A memorial graveside service is scheduled for 10 am, Wednesday, May 25, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park for James Nelson Moore of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Moore, 82, died on May 18, 2022 at his home in Artesia.

Cremation will take place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.

James was born on January 29, 1940 in Bethany, Oklahoma; the son of Edgar Moore and Vera Shelton Moore. James' family moved to Artesia when he was just six months old.

He was married to Nelwyn Hughes on May 13, 1967 in Carlsbad, NM.

A lifelong resident of Artesia, James was a butcher for much of his adult life at H&J Grocery and then at Fenn's Supermarket. In 1992 he went to work for Pyramid Services and Omini Corp as a contract laborer at The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, retiring in March 2002.

In his younger years, James enjoyed raising horses and livestock. Hunting with his friends and brother-in-law Bob was something he really enjoyed. He also loved working in his yard and gardening. People always admired his nice manicured lawn. He disliked being still and was always puttering around outside where he could always find something to keep him busy. When he did take a break it was to watch his favorite, Gunsmoke, or any kind of football game. He loved visiting with his neighbors of many years and they became much more than just neighbors. They became very dear friends that always looked out for each other.

James was preceded in death by his parents, a son Richard N. Moore, and a sister, Patsy Hale.

Survivors include his wife Nelwyn Moore; daughter Sharon Combs of Dallas, TX; sisters Wanda Reames of Carlsbad, Peggy Carter and husband Jimmy of Casa Grande AZ, and Zelda Moore of Roswell; a sister-in-law Linda Holley and husband Bob of Roswell, NM; numerous nieces and nephews including Darren Holley and wife Danielle of Artesia, NM, and Travis Holley and wife Jessica of Fort Worth, TX; also his little buddy and great-nephew, Spencer Crook of Clovis, NM.
