-----------------
According to Edie Mae Sawyer Roderick in April, 1998, she told this writer that she was told that when Joseph came to America he was asked, perhaps by immigration officials, what his name was. He only could speak Portuguese and could not understand the question or they could not understand his response. They asked him where he was from, he said Flores, so they said fine, then your name is Joseph Flores. I believe that is the most probable explanation of the name change. All the religious records from the church and the marriage and birth records in the Provincetown records all use the surname, Almeida, but the federal census records use the last name Flores.
