James Wesley Terral, called J.W. by friends and known affectionately and adoringly as Big Papa by his grandchildren, was a big man who left big footprints in my heart forever. He was a very well respected man through-out Red River and Bowie counties. He held the position of Bowie County Road Commissioner at one time. He married Carrie McMillan in 1912 and they had 3 daughters: Maudie Terral Landers, Ruby Lee Terral Elliott and Billy Van Terral. Carrie passed away very young and J.W. met and married Ruby Trim Jones. Ruby and J.W. lived happily ever after til he left us way too soon. He forever left memories in my heart. Big Papa was my John Wayne, my hero....I will never ever forget him. I only hope he knew how very much I loved him...and still do.
