Obituary from farnsworthmortuary.com:
Gail Edgar Loynd, 89, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2022, at his home in Twin Falls, Idaho, with his wife at his side.
Gail was born August 21, 1932, the son of Thomas Edgar and Lurline Staggs Loynd. He was born in the home (really just a small log cabin) of his grandparents, John and Birtie Loynd. When Gail was about a year old, his father built a small, one-room trailer house, that was 5 feet by 8 feet, that they lived in for about six years. When his brother, Lavon, was born, the trailer was located where Scotty's Drive-In in Idaho Falls is today.
His father worked for a rancher herding sheep in the Kilgore, Idaho area when Gail was about five years old. Gail loved being out in the sheep camp. He got to ride on horses with Ed and Lurline. He learned to love the outdoors from these early experiences. They returned to Rigby, Idaho when it was time for Gail to go to school.
Gail went to Ricks College for a few months, and because of a money shortage decided to go into the Army for his training and then use the GI bill to fund his schooling. He entered the military in 1952 and two years later he was placed in the Reserves so he could go to college. He was honorably discharged in 1960.
In 1954 Gail returned to Ricks College. He missed getting his four-year degree from Ricks as they changed to a two-year school. He graduated from the University of Utah with an accounting degree. He loved learning and attended classes at several other universities.
He met Lois Powell while at Ricks and they were married in 1955 in Idaho Falls. They had six children, Kerry Gail, Ronald David, Blair Edgar (deceased), Steven Paul, Cheryl Diane, and David Ryan. They were later divorced.
He married Charlene Sappington in 1992. They divorced later.
On July 10, 2004, he married Kathleen Riley in Chesterfield, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Twin Falls temple. They loved going on day trips and never going home the same way. And sometimes the day trips lasted more than one day. They also loved their yearly trips to Yellowstone National Park where Gail always got after Kathleen for getting too close to the animals while taking pictures. They loved hiking, fishing, hunting, and water skiing. Gail loved to fish until Kathleen became the better fisherman and then he just quit fishing and read a book while watching her fish. He also served as a temple worker for seven years. He served a Family History mission in Twin Falls for six years.
He worked for the Idaho State Highway Department, INEL, and Safeco Insurance as an adjuster. He then worked in Real Estate and appraisals for many years with his own office for most of that time. He worked as the clerk of the board in the Bonneville school district as their accountant. During these years he served on the state Board of Accountancy and the Idaho State Safety Commission. He was licensed in accounting, real estate, and insurance.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; as well as his children: Kerry Gail (Rosana) Loynd, Ronald David Loynd, Steven Paul Loynd, Cheryl Diane (Wayne) Scoggins, and David Ryan Loynd.
His stepchildren are Tina (Gerald) Wood, Travis (Katie) Brownlee, Brandon (Letha) Brownlee, Nathan (Darmae) Brownlee, Ryan Brownlee, Gary (Roxanne) Brownlee, and Tiffini (Rene) LeJuene. Gail had 25 grandchildren, 19 step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Loynd and Lurline Champion; his brother, Lavon Dee Loynd; and a son, Blair Edgar Loynd.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 3, 2022, at the Richfield Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will conclude at the Richfield Cemetery following.
