An Elmira woman is in serious condition at St. Joseph's Hospital following an accident late Saturday evening.

Betty J. Heaney, 57, of 401 Maple Ave., Elmira suffered a concussion and severe bleeding when her car left the roadway and struck a tree at 504 Maple Ave., according to Elmira City Police.

She was taken from the scene of the accident in a semi-conscious state, according to police.
