Mrs. Viola Limberg
Funeral services for Mrs. Viola Helene Limberg, age 92, of Gary, SD, will be at 10:30 AM on May 21, 2002 at the United Methodist Church at Gary, SD. with the Rev. Darwin Kopfman officiating. Mrs. Limberg passed away on May 17, 2002 at the Deuel County Memorial Hospital in Clear Lake, SD. She was the widow of Eilly W. Limberg.
Viola was born on November 23, 1909, to Carl and Bertha (Lau) Hillman a half mile south of Nassau, Mn. She was baptized on January 16, 1910 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Nassau, and confirmed on June 7, 1925 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Marietta, MN. She attended several country schools, including District No. 107 in Walter Township, Lac Qui Parle County before moving to Marietta. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1930. She then attended Teacher's Normal School for one year at Lake Benton, MN and then taught country school north and east of Marietta for two years.
She married Eilly William Limberg on November 23, 1923. They made their home at various farmsteads in Antelope Valley. Here they had five children born to them. They moved to the Gary Gulch in 1942 where one more daughter was born. In 1954, they moved to Lake Cochrane and then into the City of Gary in 1957 until she moved to the Good Samaritan Home in Clear Lake in September of 2000.
From 1948 until her retirement in the late 1970's she worked at the Gary restaurants, Gary Public School and Shady Rest Lodge. She was a past president of the Gate City Senior Citizens for several years, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 109, and a member of the United Methodist Church in Gary.
She is survived by two sons, Harvey and his wife, Mary Limberg of Gary, SD and Donald and his wife, Annie Limberg of Marietta, MN; one daughter Karen and her husband, Gurard Keimig of Gary, SD; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one brother, Hugo Hillman of Battle Lake, Mn and two sisters, Lyla Schmidt of Marietta, MN and Alvira Schmidt of Kalispell, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eilly; one son, Eilly E. Limberg; two daughters, Janice Limberg and Shirley Caldwell; one son-in –law, Bruce; one grandson, Bradley; three brothers, Irvin, Chester, and Roland; and three sisters, Irma Sandau, Louise Hillman and Louise Anderson.
