Frances Barnett Booth

CLARKSDALE – Frances Barnett Booth, age 93, passed away on July 20, 2022, at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville, Mississippi, after a brief illness.

She was born in Pleasant Grove, Mississippi, on May 20, 1929, and soon thereafter moved with her family to Starkville. She graduated from Starkville High School and received her B.S. degree in home economics from Mississippi State College for Women. In 1950 after finishing college, she married Harold Eugene Booth of Lexington, Mississippi. She was his loving and devoted wife for 56 years until his death in 2006.

She and her husband moved to Clarksdale in 1954 and resided there the remainder of their lives. She was a former teacher, but her true calling was as a homemaker. She was an extraordinary cook, a talented seamstress, and an avid day lily gardener. Her great joy in life was raising her four children.

She was a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Clarksdale. She loved her Sunday school class, the Crusaders, and counted them among her dearest friends. She also held many offices in the United Methodist Women and served on numerous church committees throughout the years. Her church was simply her "home away from home." She was especially devoted to the mission ministry of her church. She implemented and directed a program that raised vital funds for missions, charities, natural disasters and special needs. She served for several decades as the church recruiter for Mississippi Blood Services organizing blood drives in the community that saved many lives. She received the lifetime achievement award from Mississippi Blood Services for her dedication.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Eugene Booth, her daughter in law, Renee Slay Booth, and her parents, Charles L. Barnett and Ora McCreight Barnett of Starkville.

Survivors include sons Eugene Booth (Ellen) of Clarksdale, and Jeff Booth of Madison, MS and daughters Gail Jones (Rob) of Jackson, MS and Claire Barksdale (Rees) of Jackson, MS. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Hal Booth (Megan), Lacey Miller (Trent), Andrew Jones (Laura Katherine), Hunter Booth, Abby Booth, Anna Booth, Tresa Patterson (Eric) and Russell Barksdale. In addition, she leaves behind six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister Virginia Cartwright of Milledgeville, GA and her brother Franklin Barnett of Longview, MS.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to Clarksdale United Methodist Church, 405 East 2nd Street, Clarksdale, MS or the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at Clarksdale United Methodist Church on Monday, July 25, at 12:00 noon with visitation immediately following the service. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
