ONEIDA >> Nellie M. Kampf, 98, of Oneida, N.Y., passed away peacefully at the home of her son Kevin, on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017. Nellie was born in Munnsville, N.Y., on Dec. 3, 1918, a daughter of Earl and Mary Stratton Rutan. On Feb. 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Peter Kampf. Mr. Kampf passed away in December 1978. She worked with her husband on the family farm for many years. Peter and Nellie were then employed together at the Stockbridge Valley Central Schools with Custodial Services. She volunteered for the Office of the Aging, until the age of 90. She was also an avid reader.
Nellie was a devoted mother to her five children and loving grandmother to her many grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons, Terry and Shirley Kampf of Munnsville, and Peter "Kevin" and Valerie Kampf of Oneida; and two daughters, Melody and Richard Babcock of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and Tammy and Ed Pagan of Dover, Del. She was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren. Nellie was predeceased by a son, Nicholas in 1973, a brother, Stanley Rutan, in 1936 and two sisters, Florence Zabele and Beatrice Alter in 1984.
Calling hours will be Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, from 1-3 p.m. at the Coolican-McSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida. Interment will be in Stockbridge Cemetery immediately following calling hours, with the Rev. Raymond Lighthall officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413-9954.
