Donald Schulte
Funeral services for Donald Schulte, age 60 of Gary, will be at 2 pm on May 2, 1999 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary. Rev. Bruce Mueller will officiate. Mr. Schulte passed away on April 29, 1999 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Casket bearers will be Perry Heaton, Dale Schackelford, Mike Miller, Gary Sander, George Carmen, Albert Bekaert, and Jim Denelsbeck.
Donald Gregory Schulte was born on November 30, 1938 in Latimer, Iowa to Bernard and Alice (Kenyon) Schulte. He was baptized and made his first communion in the Catholic Church. At the age of two years Don moved with his family to the Gary area. He attended Troupe country school near Gary through the eighth grade and graduated from Gary High School in 1956. In June of 1956, Don enlisted in the US Air Force and served until June of 1960.
In the summer of 1965, Don became a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church. On October 9, 1965, Don was united in marriage to Ellen Stone. To this union two daughters and one son were born. Together, Don and Ellen were able to share in over 33 years of marriage.
Don worked at Deuel County Cenex in Clear Lake for about a year. He managed the Gary Liquor Store for a year and then in 1968 he began working at the Gary Sexauer Elevator and retired as manager in 1981 due to medical reasons. Don was currently manager of the FmHA Housing in Gary. Among the things Don enjoyed were pool, golf and umpiring and coaching baseball and softball. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings football fan and also followed the Minnesota Twins baseball team. He was a retired member of the Gary Fire Department and past member of the church council. He was secretary reasurer of the Gary Historical Society and was a member of the SD Umpires Association and the Peden-Cole American Legion Post # 109. Don enjoyed his church and his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping, bird watching gardening and dancing with his wife.
Don is survived by his wife, Ellen Schulte of Gary, SD; one son Chad Schulte of Albuquerque, NM; two daughters, Wendy and Glen Warrick of Gary, SD and Teresa and Steve Hunt of Gary, SD; six grandchildren, Danielle, Tiffany, Lil' Glenn and Haley Warrick and Jacoby and Jamison Hunt; two brothers, Gene and Diane Schulte of Eden Prairie, MN and J.B. and Carolyn Schulte of Prior Lake, MN; three sisters, Judy and Herb Hunt of Mora, Mn, Fran and Elmer Fritz of Clear Lake, SD and Cele and Austin McInerny of Eagen, MN ; and many nieces and nephews. Don is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Richard Schulte.
