Loren Gene Elliott, age 76, of Camden, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born Jan. 12, 1926, in Camden, Ohio, the son of the late Merle and Daisy (Patterson) Elliott. On June 22, 1946, he married Berty Willeford in Newport, Ky. He was a sales clerk for the Camden Hardware for 32 years. He was also a custodian for Preble Shawnee School District for 10 years. He was a member of the Camden Fire Department for 25 years, serving as chief for 12 years. He served as a former Camden Village Council member. He was a member of the Camden Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Berty Elliott; his children, Debra (Tom) Crumbaker, Scott (Carla) Elliott, both of Camden, Ohio; brother, Robert (Violetta) Elliott of Camden, Ohio; sisters, Lou Ellen Murray of College Corner, Ohio, and Gladys Howell of Camden, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua and Daniel Crumbaker, Lisa Elliott; stepgrandchildren, Dawn (Ed) Standifer, Derek Alexander; stepgreat-grandson, Payton Standifer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Daisy Elliott, and brothers, Marvin Elliott and Lee Kenneth Elliott.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Nein-Thompson Funeral Home, 249 N. Main St., in Camden. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Greg Jackson will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairmount Cemetery.
