He confessed to the violent murder of his father, Henry Christian Goedecke, his mother, Joan Rigsby Goedecke, his sister, Ellen Elizabeth Goedecke, and his brother, Mark David Goedecke on August 15, 1964 when he was eighteen years old.

On December 8, 1964, he was convicted of first-degree murder, but the Supreme Court of California reduced the charges to second-degree murder.

In 1975, he was released from prison on parole. He married Sandra Kay Thomas in February of 1977.

After being granted parole, in 1979 he plead guilty to second degree murder in the case of Madalene "Marge" Lawrence (#155395073) whose body was discovered on June 17, 1978. She was the widow of a San Quinton security guard that he had befriended while on death row. He was sentenced to seven years.

He was ultimately discharged from parole on July 23, 1984.

He was self-employed as a landscaper at the time of his death at the age of forty-eight.
