William "Bill" Paul Luthiger was 75 when he passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2018, with his loving family by his side. Bill was born October 18, 1943 in Hollywood CA to Charles & Harriet Luthiger. He grew up and went to school in the Sherman Oakes area graduating from Van Nuys High School in 1961. He briefly attended Pierce College before joining the Army in April 1965. He served in the Army for six years, one year of which he served in An Khe -Vietnam (1966-1967) during the Vietnam War as a 1st Calvary Chinook Helicopter Mechanic/Door Gunner.

In 1967, he met the love of his life Marji and they married on December 30,1969. They have four children: Dana, Erinn, Aimee & Willie and resided in Simi Valley, CA. In 1977, Bill and Marji moved their family from California to Washington state and settled their roots in Anacortes, where he has lived ever since. In the late 70's early 80's he did a short stint in real estate with Deception Pass Realty, in 1982, he started employment with Stearns & Rogers and then with Raytheon for the next 20 years, 16 of those years, he worked as a Materials Control Manager on Johnston Atoll in the South Pacific. He retired from Raytheon in 2003.

Over the years, Bill and Marji would vacation in Las Vegas and Hawaii, which they called their paradise. Bill was a great teacher to his children, from coaching softball, teaching them how to change oil & tires on a vehicle, fishing & camping to respecting others. Not only was he a mentor, he was a cherished source of guidance, stability and love for his close-knit family. Bill also enjoyed his free time with his grandchildren, taking them to school every morning and picking them up, watching them play sports, dance and even driving around late at night after hearing a call on the police scanner just to name a few. He had a sense of humor that only a few understood…. he was always quick to outwit someone else and always had to have the last word, even up to his final day. Bill was very much a family man and will be terribly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Harriet Luthiger. He is survived by his wife of 48 wonderful years, Marji; his daughters: Dana (Scott Zacher), Erinn (Todd Welliver), Aimee (Rodd Frantz) and his only son: Willie (Brianna); his grandchildren: Chris (Sarah) & Colton Zacher, Matthew & Nolan Welliver, Kapricia, Bjorn, & Niklas Luthiger, Rielly & Adelynne Frantz; his great grandchildren: Ava, Emma & Moses Zacher. All of his immediate family resides in Anacortes – how fortunate he was! He is also survived by his sister Charlotte Stephens in CA and his only niece: Laurie-Anne (Steve Cudahy) of CA and their children, extended family members and friends.

Bill was so very proud of all of his children and grandchildren for their accomplishments and the people they have become, he loved each and every one of them dearly. Bill will not only be remembered as Marji's "Rock", but also as a dedicated husband, father, Papa, Great Papa, Brother & Uncle.

A special thanks of gratitude to all of the physicians, nurses and staff at Island Hospital, the entire staff at Hospice of the NW – we could not have gotten through this without you, especially his "dream team" Nurse Jenni & Aide Naddi and the staff at Home Attendant Care through Veterans Affairs – We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Per his request there will be no service at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date – looks like we're getting the last word in this time Dad! We love you and miss you!
