Maria was the daughter of Edward and Martha (Rear) Rick. She was born and raised in England. 1 April 1850, 21 years of age, Maria with her parents and 8 siblings immigrated to the USA aboard the ship Camillus, landing 10 April 1850 at New Orleans. The family travelled to Illinois and settled in the Council Hill area of Jo Daviess county.
21 November 1850, Maria married Thomas Spark. They settled in Fair Play, Grant county, Wisconsin. Maria gave birth to four boys; John born 1852, George born 1853, Joseph born 1856, all grew to adulthood, and Thomas, born 14 April 1858 died 3 August 1858.
Maria died 14 April 1858 (1859) in Fair Play, Wisconsin.
