Sr. Mary Katharine Brennan, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas died peacefully at the Sisters Residence at Mercy Center on Thursday, July 14, 2022.

She was born Aug. 10, 1939, in Williamstown, and was the daughter of the late Daniel and Helen Rechel Brennan. She graduated from Pittsville Catholic High School and received a bachelor's degree in religious studies from College Misericordia and a master's degree from St. Joseph University in Harford, Conn.

She entered the Sisters of Mercy on Feb. 2, 1958, in Dallas, and professed her vows Sept. 16, 1960. Her years in the ministry of teaching were shared in the Dioceses of Harrisburg, Scranton, Brooklyn and Altoona. She especially enjoyed her years at Trinity High School in Shiremanstown.

Sister Katharine was an avid reader and would engage in theological discussions whenever possible. Her strong faith and peaceful heart guided her throughout her life. This was particularly true in the last months of her life when she saw her own death as a new beginning. She died peacefully and content knowing that she lived her life using the gifts and talents she was given to the best of her ability in bringing MERCY to those she met.

Sister Katharine is survived by her sister, Loretta Plunkett, Colorado Springs, Colo.; her beloved nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Mercy.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Daniel and Edward; and her parents.

The celebration of her life will be held in the Chapel at Mercy Center, Dallas. Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters Residence at Mercy Center, P.O. Box 369, Dallas PA 18612. Condolences can be sent at eblakecollins.com.
