From a recollection of his brother Eb, "at Little Rock, Arkansas, and after breaking camp he just by chance found his brother John, supposedly dead and had been carried outside the tent and covered for dead. On examining it was found he was still alive and assisted by Major Stanton and Dr. Rennels he was revived and sent to a hospital where he regained his health and lived to the age of 90, only having been dead a few years. He served till the close of the war and was mustard out at Keokuk."
