Joe Asberry was the son of Joseph and Annie Mae Asberry. He was born in Palestine, graduating from A.M. Story High School. Joe started working as a truck driver right after college.
In 1972, Joe became the owner of Asberry Trucking Company as a bulk mail carrier contractor for The United Postal Service. Mail was transported through various routes throughout the State of Texas.

Joe Asberry, Jr. was the first African American Contractor for the US Postal Service in Anderson County. Joe retired in 2014. He was a member of the USPS Contractor's Association, He opened up opportunities for many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one baby brother, wife Patricia Johnson Asberry, one daughter and two sisters.

Joe became the owner and operator of the Asberry Trucking Company as a bulk mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. Joe Asberry, Jr. was the First African American Contractor for the U.S. Postal Service in Anderson County. He retired in 2014. He was a member of the USPS Contractor's Association. He opened up opportunities of employment for many.

Joe's hobbies included reading, traveling, listening to music, playing the piano, and outdoor cooking. Joe had the opportunity to travel all over the United States
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Baby Will Asberry, wife Patricia Johnson Asberry, one daughter Vickyunn Danielle Johnson sisters Jo Ann Asberry-Ransom and Mary E. Asberry.
