Obituary

Alva Douglas "Al" Linder, 79, of Boonsboro, Md., passed away on December 11, 2005 at the VA in Washington, DC.

Born July 28, 1926 on a farm in Elmwood, Nebraska, he was the son of the late Frank Linder and Sophie Brockman Linder.

Al served our country in the Navy during WWII. He graduated from Nebraska University and Worsham University. He played football at Peru State. Al was a Master Mason, a member of Scottish Rite, and York Rite in Nebraska City. He was a former partner of Kogelschatz and Coffman Funeral Home in Martinsburg. He was past president of the WV Funeral Directors Association from 1974 to 1975, and was past president of the Martinsburg Lions Club. He was a member of Calvary UMC in Martinsburg, and attended Salem UMC in Keedysville, Md. Al was an avid sports enthusiast and gardener.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Lee and Dorothy Hobscheidt, and two brothers, Maurice and Wayne Linder.

He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Cora VanMiddlesworth of Rockville, Md., Sarah Linder of Knoxville, Md.; a son, Zane Linder of Stafford, Va.; two step-grandchildren, Laurel and Douglas James Thoreson both of Stafford, Va.; a brother, Boyd Linder of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; two sisters, Bonnie Allen of Denver, CO and Connie Gillespie of Rancho Mirage, California.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, December 15, 2005 at Rosedale Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2005, at Rosedale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Malcolm Stranathan and Rev. Albert L. Clipp officiating. Martinsburg Combined Honor Guard will conduct military honors.

Mr. Linder will be interred at a later date in Plattsmouth, NE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem UMC, PO Box 25, Keedysville, MD 21756 or Ravenwood Adult Day Services, 1109 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, MD, 21740.
