The death of Steven Abert occurred at 8 a. m. Tuesday at his farm about six miles from the city in Bloom township.
Mr. Abert had been seriously sick only, since the tenth of this month but has been ailing with the disease which carried him off for some three months. Death was due to dropsy. He was obliged to give up farm work this spring when about half through.
The funeral was held Wednesday at 10 a. m. at the Polish church at Fried and burial in the Fried cemetery.
Mr. Abert was one of the old time farmers of the county, coming here in 1881 and his farm, in section 5 township, is well known to all the old timers. Mr. Abert leaves a wife and four children. He was nearly 57 years of age.
His children are:
1. Mary Abert,
2. Anna Perry
3. Thomas
4. Vincent
All reside in the county. Last fall, while riding on a load of grain to be hauled to the elevator at Bloom, Mr. Abert had the misfortune to fall from the wagon, the wheel having struck a stone and throw him off. By the fall he broke his arm in two places and also was injured otherwise. He was at the hospital for some time for treatment and the injuries he received seem to have affected his general health seriously and hastened the fatal progress of the disease of dropsy. He was born in Germany.
