BISHOP - At his home near Barnesville, Kas., at 8:30 o'clock a. m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1902, after a very brief illness of heart disease, John A. Bishop, aged 70 years, 9 months and 1 day. The funeral took place from the late residence of the deceased at one o'clock p. m. yesterday, Rev. F. M. Taylor, of the M. E church in this city officiating, and interment was made at Fairview cemetery north of town. John A. Bishop was born at Kingwood, W. Va., Jan 20, 1832; was married to Sarah Hanway at Fellowsville, W. Va., Sept. 4, 1853. To this union were born six children, with names and residences as follows: Mrs. Zava Amick, Oceanside, Calif.; Geo. M. Bishop, Barnesville, Kas.; James A. Bishop, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Dera Lawrence, Salt Lake, Utah; Mrs. Annis Oliver, Monterey, Calif.; Mrs. Della Hill, Barnesville, Kas. The family moved to Kansas in 1864 and located on the tract of land now occupied by the widow. Mr. Bishop was a good citizen and a pleasant neighbor and was highly esteemed by his pioneer friends. He leaves a widow and family of grown children to mourn his death. He leaves a well improved farm and considerable personal estate to his family, the result of unremitting toil and frugal living. The INDEPENDENT tenders its sympathy to the bereaved widow and family in their deep sorrow.
