The funeral services for Alvin Vernon Schuring (AL) 92 will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 26, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Road, North Plato, with the Rev. Gerhard Mau officiating. Burial services will be in the Lake Wood Memorial Cemetery, Elgin.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8PM Friday and 10 to 11AM Saturday prior to the service at the church.

Al was born in Huntley on February 19, 1915 and was the son of Frank and Elma Schuring and was one of four children. Al passed away on Tuesday morning January 22nd.

He met his wife at a July 4th picnic and was later married on June 3, 1936 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Huntley. They first lived in Maywood, IL before establishing their home in Plato Township.

Al was always proud of the fact that he was blessed with many accomplishments in his lifetime through hard work and a dedicated wife. Starting a milk distribution in the 1930's and retiring in 1972 when his two sons took over until they sold the business to their interested sons making it a three generation business. He always maintained an interest by questioning, "How are things going?" and hoping for the best. He also started a successful farming operation when moving to Plato Township with a primary focus on dairy. These successful business accomplishments provided great satisfaction, allowing him to be a provider to his wife, family, church and community.

Being a hard worker and provider also meant that he enjoyed his time to relax. He enjoyed his hunting trips with friends and family in his younger days, but later found his love to be the trips to International Falls, MN with his beloved wife, Dorothy. These fishing trips lasted over fifty years and the time spent fishing and reminiscing with friends always provided him great enjoyment. His love for the garden also found him working with growing vegetables and providing his wife with plenty of food to can, or freeze for those winter months. If the vegetables did not come from the garden, it most likely was not served in the Schuring home.

Alvin is survived by three daughters, Carol (George) Smith of Plato Township, Joyce (Robert) Peters of Burleson, TX and Virginia of Plato Township; two sons, Warren (Dolores) Schuring and Norman (Beverly) Schuring of Plato Township; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and his loving caregiver, Felix.

He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his beloved wife of nearly 71 years on April 21, 2007; his son, Dale in 1960; a grandson; his parents; one sister; and two brothers.

Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the General Fund of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Rd., Hampshire, IL 60140.

The Fredrick Funeral Home of Hampshire is assisting the family. Information (847)683-2711.
