He is survived by his beloved sister and brother-in-law Diana M. and Thomas R. Vodicka of Portage, Wisconsin, his cousins Christine (Dale ) Bennett of Glen Allen, Virginia, Janet ( the late Paul) Balcer of Pasadena, Maryland and numerous cousins, and special friends.
His education included Catholic Seminary studies, Nursing, Psychology, Dialysis treatment and Respiratory Care therapy. David attended St. Paul's Latin High School Day Seminary. He later was a student at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, eventually graduating from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While working, he continued studies completing a Masters Degree equivalency in Education with a specialty in Counselling from Bowie State College, finishing in 1983. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Health Sciences from Walden University in 1991.
His work career varied. David worked briefly as a Physician's Assistant in Cardiology, a medical supplies salesman and as a Dialysis technician. He partnered with a friend and operated a Heavy Metal Music Radio Station, Underground 97, in Fells Point from 1987 to 1991.
He travelled serving as a Respiratory Therapist and briefly taught as an Instructor of Respiratory Therapy. He was proud to have been employed at John's Hopkins Hospital and at a Southern Maryland hospital during his working years.
David retired from healthcare working as a Respiratory Therapy Department Supervisor at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital.
A highlight of his career was a two week medical exchange trip to the USSR.
In his younger years, he did volunteer work in the inner city, was a crisis counselor and was a docent at the National Aquarium at Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
David was an avid reader, enjoyed the visual and performing arts and a variety of gourmet foods, dining, and cooking. Writing poetry, photography, painting, engaging in cinema, apartment gardening, listening to music, and swimming were among his hobbies. In his later years, he was gladdend by his recall of camping with friends, dining with and connecting with friends and vacationing along the East Coast, especially the Outer Banks.
There are no funeral services planned at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. David directed that his body be donated to science.
Memorials may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Metropolitan Baltimore, St. Jude's Children's Hosppital and the Maryland Food Bank.
