Mr. Douglas C. Dunaway, 79, of Jayess, MS, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 1, 2022 at his sister's home in Jayess, MS.

Mr. Douglas was born in McComb, MS on December, 16, 1942 and was the son of Roney Dunaway and Wilma Alexander Dunaway. He was a member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church at Carter's Creek. At the age of 15, he joined the United States Army and his family was very proud of him. He was a very patriotic person and loved his country. He was a mason and was involved in the Enon Community Lodge. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and especially coon hunting. He loved his family and cherished each moment spent with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Shelby Dunaway, and Leroy Dunaway; two sisters, Audrey Cothern, and Kay Leake, and one son, Robbie Dunaway.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlene Cothern Dunaway of Jayess, MS; two sons, Joey Dunaway of Jayess, MS, and Tommy Dunaway of Brookhaven, MS; one daughter, Misty Woodard and Greg of Leads, AL; two sisters, Judy Freeman and Solon of Brookhaven, MS, and Nancy Johnson of Jayess, MS; eight grandkids, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Allen Johnson, Eugene Stinson, Jennifer Jenkins, Samantha Leake, Ricky Dunaway, and Curty Dunaway. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Coon, Vernon Alexander, and Dwain Leake.

A graveside Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Cothern Cemetery in Jayess, MS from 9AM until time of graveside service at 10AM with Bro. Mike Alexander officiating and Sharkey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
