John Brehm and Catherine Reichert were married on April 12, 1863. The couple lived in Conestogo, Ontario, where they raised four children:
- Henry (1863-1936)
- Hannah (1865-1926)
- Edward (1868-1920)

It is our sad duty to-day to chronicle the death of John Brehm one of our oldest residents, whose death took place on Wednesday morning after a lingering illness of some six months. The deceased had been teamster at the Snider mills for over forty years, and not until he was forced to, did he think of quitting his job. The deceased lived to be 67 yrs. 3 months and 3 days old. He left to mourn the loss of a beloved husband and father, his widow, 3 sons, Henry of Berlin, Edward, of Chicago, and Joseph of Waterloo, and a daughter at home. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock to the New Mennonite church and cemetery for interment. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community.
