Anatoly was an innocent civilian victim of the Russian war in the Donbas region of Ukraine. He had just taken his little granddaughter, Vika, out for ice cream, when they were caught in a Russian shelling. Vika burned to death, while Anatoly sustained severe head trauma, killing him shortly after the attack.

"Anatoly Grigorovich was the real master of his word. All his life he worked as a bus driver. During his lengthy career he changed companies only two or three times. He had a well-developed sense of responsibility; having received several driver categories, he took responsibility for the transportation of passengers.

When his wife's sister died, he and his wife decided to take two nephews in with them. The boys were raised well, and are now both studying in college.

The family's problems, however, did not end there. Anatoly's son and daughter-in-law had three children. Tragically, the daughter-in-law left the house and passed away. Anatoliy Grigorievich and his wife now took these three children into their care. The house now held a huge family. Noise, screams, and laughter of young children were always heard in the house, delighting the grandparents." (source: remember.wiki)

(note: Many news articles report a 17-year old boy, "Anatoly Grigorievich Miroshnichenko ", dying in this attack, alongside 7-year old Vika. More reliable sources --- people who knew the family, and have provided information about them --- support Anatoly being an older man. This discrepancy may be the result of his birthday being transcribed incorrectly (1997 instead of 1957).)
