He was born on Tuesday, March 10, 1942, in Austin, Texas to Cecil and Evelyn (Lyons) Alewine. Don was married to Portia (Fuller) Alewine in Temple, Texas in 1966. He was what many would consider to be a "Jack of All Trades." He was an oilfield mechanic and a hard worker that loved to tinker with things. Don enjoyed painting, writing poetry, and his remote-controlled airplanes. He was a member of the Bluff Creek Cowboy Church in Drasco, Texas.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Evelyn; first wife, Leona (Boatwright) Alewine; wife Portia (Fuller) Alewine; son, Michael "Donnie" Alewine, Jr; daughters, Abriel Rankin, and Pamela Smith; grandson 'Little" Elmer Buckelew and numerous siblings.
He is survived by his daughters Evelyn and husband Elmer Buckelew of Winters, Texas, Lovie Garza of Winters, Texas, and Rene Wynkoop of Virginia; sons Deane Johnson and wife Peggy of Coleman, Texas and George Farmer and wife Stephanie of Killeen, Texas; brothers Charlie Alewine and wife Alta, Doug Alewine, and Andrew Meredith and wife Sherri; sisters Darlene Roberts and husband Marlin, Judy Thomas, and Genean Alewine. Don is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Michael 'Don" Alewine, Sr. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at 11:00 am at Bluff Creek Cowboy Church in Drasco, Texas, with Pastor Marcy Grun officiating. Burial will be the following Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11:00 am at Buckhorn Cemetery in Moody, Texas.
