SPRING VALLEY — Gladys Rose Hassler, 87, of 17471 3100 East Street, Spring Valley, died at 2:07 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Born May 5, 1920, in Hennepin to John and Magdelina (Schweickert) Kunkel, she married Ivan G. Hassler March 2, 1946, at St. Joseph's Rectory in Peru. He survives.
She was a member of St. Benedict's Church in Ladd.

Also surviving are four sons, Dennis J. Hassler of rural Spring Valley, Thomas G. (Sandi) Hassler of Morris, Brian K. (Cathy) Hassler of Spring Valley and John C. (Lorene) Hassler of McKinney, Texas; three daughters, Sharon R. (Daniel) Wood of Genoa City, Wis., Marcia M. (Keith) Whittington of Dimmick Township and Sister Mary (Barbara) Hassler, O.S.F., of Buffalo Grove; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, in St. Benedict's Church, Ladd, with the Rev. Henry Fritz, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church on the Hill Cemetery, Hollowayville.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. today in the church. Visitation and a scripture service were held Wednesday in the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.

Memorials may be directed to Priests of Sacred Heart in Hales Corner, Wis., or St. Benedict's Church in Ladd.
