Originally of San Antonio, Texas, William Edward Buck, Jr. graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1940, and retired as a U.S. Air Force Colonel, having been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters “for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as Commanding Officer of a Bombardment Squadron and later of a Bombardment Group of the Eighth Air Force during World War II.” He also received the Legion of Merit with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster and the Distinguished Service Cross.
