She attended Greenville schools and graduated from Grey's Business College in Portland.
She moved to Bradenton in 1959 and formerly lived in Maine and in Claremont, NH. In Claremont, she and her husband, Forrest Carleton, formerly owned and operated Advance Auto Sales, an Austin of England dealership, on Washington Street. Earlier, she was a legal secretary in Maine. She was also a former parishioner of Claremont First Baptist Church and an American Red Cross Gray Lady at Claremont General Hospital.
She married her first husband, Forrest D. Carleton on April 23, 1927 in Portland and they lived in East Auburn, ME before moving to Claremont. He died in 1963. Later, on October 9, 1971, she married Preston Abplanalp.
Survivors include her husband, Preston of Bradenton; one son, Carleton D. Carleton of Claremont; one daughter, Joyce C. Dedrick of North Highlands, CA; four grandsons; and one stepson, Robert A. Abplanalp of Miami Beach, FL.
Mrs. Abplanalp's ashes will be dispersed over the Pacific Ocean.
