He was a lifelong resident of Genesee who retired in 1966 as a foreman at the Genesee Union Warehouse.
Born Jan. 6, 1901, to Henry and Mary (Hennes) Bielenberg, he was the 11th of 12 children. Bielenberg dropped out of school at an early age to work on the family farm and later hired on as a farm hand outside of Genesee.
He married Rosella Elizabeth Roth on Oct. 6, 1925, at Lewiston. The couple had 10 children and in 1993 moved together to the Latah Health Services in Moscow.
Bielenberg was a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at Genesee. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, who continues to live at Latah Health Services, Bielenberg is survived by four sons, Len of Moscow, Don of Spokane, Ron of Palouse, Wash., and Leo of Anchorage; four daughters, Rose McGowan of Kent, Wash., Pat Flerchinger of Lacrosse, Wash., Henrietta Healy of Boise and Rita Meacham of Lewiston; 26 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, Theresa and Howard Bielenberg, and a grandson.
Rosary will be recited at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Genesee on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Robert Finucane officiating. Burial will at St. Mary's Cemetery, Genesee.
Viewing will be at Short's Funeral Chapel today from noon to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Genesee Ambulance Fund or to the St. Mary's Cemetery Maintenance Fund at Genesee.
