Glenn M. Haslett Jr., 82, died Saturday, July 7, 2007. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, in the Parker Cemetery in Arkansas City. Born June 12, 1925, in Arkansas City, he was the son of Joy (Alexander) and Glenn M. Haslett Sr. Glenn was raised on a farm two miles east of Arkansas City and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1943. He served in the Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He attended Cowley County Junior College and graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in agricultural engineering in 1951. He also earned a masters in engineering administration from Bradley University in 1970. It was at Kansas State where he met his wife, Joanne Steeples (Jo) and they were married on Feb. 17, 1952, in Plainville, Kan. Their children include Sue Haslett of Tulsa, Okla., Dr. Mark Haslett and wife, Karen, of Parsons, and Sandy Haslett-Strahl, of Tucson. Glenn had a green thumb and an eye for landscaping which he and Jo used in the operation of Haslett's Greenhouse east of Arkansas City from 1956 to 1966. They then moved to Peoria, Ill, where he was an engineer for Caterpillar until retirement in 1991. Telling friends they were going West to pan for gold, Glenn and Jo moved to Tucson, where they could have late night card games with brother, Max, and hang out on the back porch and tell tall tales. Summers were spent on Feesh Island in Lake of the Woods, Ontario, where Glenn always had many projects in progress and new adventures to be had every day. The only thing Glenn needed to make a house a home was his family, a deck of cards and a place to putter around. Blessed with a gift to envision and build anything, he left his family and friends with many treasures. His infectious chuckle and the twinkle in his eye were a welcome sight to all who came around.

Survivors include his wife, Jo, of 55 years; children, Sue, Mark and Sandy; sister, Dorothy Brinkman, Arkansas City; and grandchildren, Alex, Summer and Rachel Haslett and Cody Williamson, of Parsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and two brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Arkansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Adair Funeral Home Avalon Chapel, Tucson, Ariz. ADV.
