William Ewerdine Atkins was born 15 February 1798 and baptized 9 March 1798 in Melton Mowbray. His parents were Thomas Atkins and Mary Ewerdine. He was the fourth of eight children. He was named for an older brother, William who died as an infant.
W.E. Atkins was married twice. The first time in 1821 to Ruth Starkey who was the mother of his children. After her death he married in 1841 to Sarah Knapp who was a spinster who was about 41 years old. There are no records of that marriage producing children. In 1861 he is living with Sarah in Harby and he is listed as a cordwainer and a Methodist Preacher. William E. Atkins died in 1862 and was buried 21 February 1862 in Harby, Leicestershire.
