Eva L. Wagner (nee Jamie), 94 of Vermilion, died Friday, July 21, 2006 in Mill Manor Nursing Home, Vermilion. She was born September 12, 1911 in South Amherst, living in Vermilion since 1925. At age 14, she began working at the Wagner Hotel in Vermilion as a chambermaid, cook and waitress and where she eventually met her husband, Elmer Wagner. During the war, she worked for the Weatherhead Company in Cleveland making airplane parts for 16 years. She owned and operated Wagner's Gift Shop in downtown Vermilion for 19 years. She later worked as a clerk for May Company and as a seamstress for Gail Woman's World, retiring at age 75. She was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Royal Neighbors, the Vermilion Golden Agers, AARP and the Business and Professional Women's Club. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was well-known for her variety of pies. She often made as many as 24 at a time for her church to sell during the Wholly Bear Festivals. She enjoyed the entertainment and activities at Mill Manor Nursing Home. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Martha Jamie, 4 nephews and 8 nieces; many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded-in-death by her husband, Elmer Wagner in 1957, parents, John and Maria (nee DiIanni) Jamie, brothers, Carl, Wilford (Toots) and William (Bill) and sisters, Genevieve Deyoe, Barbara Piper and Bertha White. Friends may call on Monday, July 24, 2006 from 4-7 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, where funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 11:00 am. The Reverend Bill Seith will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
