Pauline Orlena Sikes, daughter of William Clarence "Bake" and Mary Lilla Virginia Standley Barton, was born August 12, 1923, in Humbolt, Kansas. She departed this life Wednesday, February 26, 2003, in Glenwood Healthcare, in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of seventy-nine years, six months, and fourteen days.
On March 18, 1943, in Wright County, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Lowell Dwain Sikes, and to this union two daughters and three sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dwain, on September 9, 1998; and three brothers, Eucla, Shelby, and Hubert Barton.
Pauline is survived by three sons, Warren Sikes, and his wife, Bonnie, of Seymour, Missouri, Kenneth Sikes, and his wife, Janice, of Springfield, Missouri, and Joe Sikes, and his wife, Louise, of Seymour, Missouri; two daughters, Betty Ann Sikes, and Helen Snelson, and her husband, Wayne, all of Seymour, Missouri; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Daisy Shull, and her husband, Junior, of Ava, Missouri, and Mary Manis, and her husband, Charles, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was raised in the Humbolt and Alton, Missouri communities, and then moved with her family to Mansfield when she was 10 years old, and graduated from Mansfield High School. After she and Dwain were married, they made their home in the Mansfield area until moving to their farm, near Seymour, in 1951. There they lovingly raised their family, and Pauline was a devoted and hardworking homemaker.
Pauline made her profession of belief in Christ early in her life and followed the Baptist faith throughout the years.
She was involved in 4-H Clubs, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Parent-Teacher Association, and was a charter member of the Webster County Farm Bureau and Extension Clubs. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cooking and reading. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pauline was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed, but the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends will live on forever.
