Mildred Anna "Millie" Carlisle, age 95, of New Castle, DE, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 21, 2022. She is now in the loving arms of her late husband, Reverend Bernard L. Carlisle, Sr. of New Castle, DE.

Millie was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family and most of all her children. In addition to 3 biological children, she, and Bernard, raised 21 foster children and opened their home to care for several more children including those with special needs.

Once her children had grown, Millie returned to school and was a nurse until she and her husband were called to minister at the Calvary Independent Baptist Church in Birchwood Park (Ogletown, DE) and later to mentor young college students at the Maryland Baptist Bible College in Elkton, MD. After Bernard passed away in 1997, Millie retired to Florida where she enjoyed the warmth of the sun as she took long walks around the backyard pond with her "kids" (Mini-Schnauzers). She was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Haines City, FL.

Millie's favorite past times were crocheting and watching her violets grow. But she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren teaching them the life skills of cooking, sewing, and ironing.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years; parents, Pierce and Mary Watts; 5 siblings, James P. Watts, Samuel H. Watts, Janet Mishler, Charles Watts, and Stanley Watts; and son-in-law, William Gross.

She is survived by her 3 children, Bernard L. Carlisle, Jr., Sharon L. Jacobs, and Donna J. Gross; 5 grandchildren, Mildred A. Clemens (Harry), Teryl O. Carlisle (Chelsey), Brian A. Gross (Lauri), Sue Carlisle (Craig Merren), and Janelle L. Davis (Jay); 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE, where a memorial service will begin at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Millie's memory to the Landmark Baptist Church Missions Fund, 2020 E. Hinson Avenue, Haines City, FL 33844 or online by clicking here or the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 or online by clicking here.
