John Perry was my Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather.

John came from Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England (70 miles East from London) on the "LION" in 1632 and settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts. The "LION" was one of the ships that came after the Mayflower. We are pretty sure John was given the land in the U.S. by Oliver Cromwell for religious reasons.

The Perry Coat Of Arms was found in the Gift Shop of Leed's Castle in Kent England. Perry means dweller by a Pear Tree.

John married Ann Newman (my Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandmother). They were the parents of Samuel Perry.

Cause of death: Consumption
Born by about 1612, based on date of freemanship and on estimated date of marriage. Came to Massachusetts Bay in 1632 & settled in Roxbury. Buried at Roxbury 21 September 1642 ("John Perry, a christian brother. He died of a consumption partly & an extreme pain in his head."
Married by 1637, probably Elizabeth _____. Probably the Elizabeth Perry who married at Roxbury on 2 April 1644 John Hanset.

Find A Grave contributor Cathy Truesdale adds without any source citation:
John Perry, a native of England, came over in 1631-32, probably in company with Rev. John Eliot, the apostle to the Indians. He is referred to by Eliot in a letter as his cousin. He was made a freeman at Boston, March 4, 1633, and settled in Roxbury, where he died and was buried September 21, 1642. His name is the fifteenth on the list of members of Rev. John Eliot's church at Roxbury. He was survived by his wife Anna, and they had children born in Roxbury: Elizabeth; John; and Samuel. Besides these, three children died in infancy, names not recorded. "New England Families, Genealogical and Memorial", Cutter. Also see pedigree page 229 in Greenwood Genealogies. Banks reports, without authority & probably inaccurately: "John Perry was from the English Parish of Sawbridgeworth and arrived in Roxbury, reference Banks, Mss." Topographical Dict. of 2885 English Emigrants to New England, 1620-1650.
