Born on January 1, 1928 in Berwick, PA, she was the daughter of the late William David and Edith Clewell Arndt. She was the widow of Rev. Donald E. May, whom she married August 6, 1949. Rev. May was the former pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, Chambersburg, PA and assistant pastor of Camp Hill Presbyterian Church.
A graduate of Berwick High School, Louise attended the Presbyterian School of Nursing in Philadelphia and Shippensburg University, where she studied Psychology. She had been employed as an administrative assistant at Wilson College in Chambersburg. Her dedication to community affairs began as a devoted minister's wife and it continued throughout her life. She was a member of Market Square Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg PA, active in the worship and the life of the Presbyterian Church. She lead the Women's Bible Study Group and was a member of the Presbyterian Women's Association at Market Square.
She was a member of both National and Pennsylvania Huguenot Societies. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood of Pennsylvania.
Her life was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and many friends. On sunny days you could find Louise working in her flower garden. She enjoyed attending cultural events such as the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.
She will be missed by her four daughters, Kathleen (and husband, Dr. David) Hartzok of Chambersburg, Rebecca (and husband, Timothy) Salerno of Damascus, MD, Amy (and husband, Kevin) Snider of Gaithersburg, MD, and Megann May Hobbs of Mechanicsburg; her eleven grandchildren; one sister, Marie Skinner of Macungie, PA; and sister in law, Myra Pifer of Camp Hill, PA.
Louise's memorial service will be held at 12 PM on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Rev. Jim Brown, Rev. Michael Miller and Rev. Matthew Richardson will officiate. Viewing and interment in Lincoln Cemetery will be private.
