Bel Air paper obituary May 24, 1889

Mr. John Glenn died at his home in Bel Air on May 18, aged 45 years, of consumption. Mr. Glenn had been in delicate health for some years. At the burning of Mr. Watts' house, on the 4th initant, he worked very hard in assisting to save property, and after the house was destroyed remained on the premises all night, guarding the furniture etc. Exposure to the night air, while in a heated condition, hastened his death, it is believed. Mr. Glenn was a son of the late Samuel Glenn, of High Point. He leaves a widow and seven children, nearly all of them quite small. They are in needy circumstances and their condition appears to the charitable. Mr. Glenn's mother lives at High Point. Two brothers, James E. Glenn, a public school teacher, and William Glenn; and two sisters, Miss Theresa Glenn, a teacher in the public schools, and a sister in Baltimore county, also survive him. The funeral took place on Monday from his late residence to Centre M.E. Church, Forest Hill. Rev. Mr. Craighill performed the funeral ceremonies. The pall-bearers were Martin Purcell, Joshua Wann, C.L. Vail, A.D. Wilson, Charles Denbow and James Chesney.

The above information was contributed by FAG Member Earl Austin Duff III.

After his death his wife had to divide up the eight children to live with various relatives in Maryland while she moved to Philadelphia with sons Calvin Glenn , Alvin Glenn, and Edward Glenn.
Other children of Katherine Slough and John T Glenn were John Glenn, Mabel Glenn, Charles Glenn, Evelyne Glenn, and Edeila Glenn.
