Merchant, Farmer, John Wilkerson Dies

Dillon -- John Wilkerson, 68 died Saturday at a Marion hospital after a short illness.

Born in Dillon County, he was a son of the late Arch and Mary Hyatt Wilkerson. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a merchant and farmer.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs.. Marie Bailey Wilkerson; a son, John M. Wilkerson of Burlington, N.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley W. Whittington of Charlotte and Mrs. Donna W. Hinson and Miss Debora Wilkerson of Dillon, and eight grandchildren.

Service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Blanton Funeral Chapel, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.

US Army. Served from March 30, 1944 - December 21, 1945. Combat duty in Germany. Rank was Private First Class. Awarded Army Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, European African Middle Eastern Combat Honor Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal.
