Martha Jean Lancaster, age 85, a resident of Memphis, TN, passed away June 7, 2022 in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina while staying with her nephew.

She was born January 14, 1937 in Trion, GA. the daughter o the late Leonard Lancaster and Ethel Mae Williams Lancaster. After graduating from Trion High School, she attended Reinhardt College and the Erlanger Hospital campus where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. She attended Emory University where she earned a Master's Degree.

After leaving Emory she moved to Memphis, TN. In 1968, she worked with Dr. Sheldon Koronos to found the Sheldon Koronos Newborn Center. The Newborn center is one of the oldest and largest Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the United States. Jean worked at the Newborn Center until her retirement in 2002. Also, during these years she was an associate professor of nursing at the University of Tennessee Medical School.

She is survived by her nephews: Patrick Lancaster, David Lancaster, and Jimmie Lancaster; niece: Susan Lancaster and many great nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday June 20, 2022 at Old Trion Cemetery in Trion, GA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Dr. Sheldon Koronos Newborn Center Regional One Health Foundation, 877 Jefferson Ave. Memphis, Tennessee 38103.
