Etta Marie Baker, 90, Chanute, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at Chanute Healthcare Center.

She was born Feb. 21, 1914, in Elsmore, Kansas, the daughter of Paul Clarence and Alleuh Mae (Spurgeon) Ard.

She graduated from Elsmore High School in 1932.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Moran, KS, and was also a member of quilting clubs in both Moran and Elsmore.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and fishing.

On Feb. 2, 1938, she married Carrel W. Baker in Iola, Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Don Baker, Kansas City, MO, David Baker, Nashville, TN, and Carney Baker, Wichita, KS; three daughters, Rosie Freeman, Chanute, KS, Kathy Ramsey, Parsons, KS, and Lavon James, Ft. Scott, KS; a sister, Vera Singer, Garnett, KS; and nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Ard; two granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held May 3, 2004, at the Gibson-Koch-Friskel Chapel, Chanute, Kansas, led by the Rev. Kelly Zellner. Burial will be in Moran Cemetery, Moran, Kansas.

Memorials suggested to the American Heart Association.
