She was born July 2, 1939 in Bandy, Virginia, the daughter of the late John R. and Lucy (Sparks) Smith, and the youngest daughter of 15 children.
Anna worked at Collins Packing for many years, until they closed, which ultimately led her to find work that she truly enjoyed, working as a cashier. She worked in that role first at Detty's Supermarket, then at the Dollar General. One of her great joys was meeting people. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone she met. After retiring she volunteered at the Adena Greenfield Medical Center.
She was a former member and past president of the Greenfield Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.
Even though she had arthritis and her hands didn't work well she persevered, and would find a way to do what needed done. She never wanted her hands to be the thing people remembered most about her.
She is survived by four daughters, Nancy (Jim) Rhodes, Patty Hollen, Sue (Dave) Leaverton, Kim (Rob) Hazlett all of Greenfield; one stepson, Chuck Conkel of Urbana; twelve grandchildren, Steve (Maggie) Chaney, April (Andrew) Molloy, Adam (Nikki) Chaney, Lucy (Josh) Bromer, Shawna (Robert) Willett, Sarah (Josh) Claytor, Jesse (Melissa) Hazlett, Jessica Leaverton, Ron Mathews II, Kristopher (Rachel) Hazlett, Isaac Leaverton (Matt Waite), Seth Hazlett; eighteen great grandchildren; one sister, Frances Raines of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
